Dennis C. Sweet IV

 

Dennis C. Sweet IV is an associate at Sweet and Associates Law Firm in Jackson, Mississippi.  His practice focuses on civil rights litigation, criminal defense and personal injury.


An honors graduate of Tougaloo College, Dennis earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 2005.  He was a Dean’s List Scholar and received his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law in 2008. Dennis also received a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from The George Washington University Law School in 2011.  


Dennis is a passionate civil rights attorney, vigorously defending his clients and successfully litigating his cases.  He was part of a team that won a $23 million dollar verdict against the Jackson Marriott Hotel and the City of Jackson in the shooting of an unarmed man by an off-duty Jackson Police officer.  An accomplished writer, his Appellate Brief in Lewis v. City of Jackson 153 So.3d (Miss.2014) highlighted the legal standards for inappropriate police pursuits.  


In his criminal practice, Dennis has successfully represented a wide range of clients accused of murder, armed robbery, assault, fraud, and other crimes.  He also practices personal injury litigation and has experience in cases from automobile accidents to medical malpractice and premises liability.  


Dennis has received several awards and certificates for his work as an attorney.  Among his honors, Dennis received: the Top 10 under 40 Attorney Award from the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys; the Top 10 under 40 Attorney Award from the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys; and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Magnolia Bar Association for conducting a Continuing Legal Education seminar on Civil Rights Litigation.  Additionally, Tougaloo College recognized his volunteer service to the Ruben V. Anderson Pre-Law Society.

Dennis is licensed to practice law in Mississippi and Washington D.C. He is actively involved in community service and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and the Magnolia Bar Association.
